Regional elections, Giani-Tomasi sparks on the date: “Enough dancing”. The reply: “Is the 12th okay with you?”

Florence, July 4, 2025 – Voting for the new Governor of Tuscany will take place on October 12. Or perhaps on the 19th? A doubt that this morning, July 4, has sparked a sort of squabble between those who, in all likelihood, will be the two main candidates: Eugenio Giani for the center-left and Alessandro Tomasi for the centre-right.
Both present at the regional assembly of Confcooperative in Bagno a Ripoli, the two candidates in pectore did not hold back. Giani, answering a question from the stage, expressed his intention to go to the polls on October 12 instead of October 19, and his probable challenger, for the center-right, the mayor of Pistoia Alessandro Tomasi, speaking afterwards, spoke of a "disgusting" and "cloying" discussion that has been going on for some time on the point of the date.
"Set the date, let it be your turn, let it be the State-Regions Conference's turn ," Tomasi said, turning to Giani, and raising his voice, "instead of this dance about dates and days, about alchemy and the Constitution! Out of respect for what we are going to do, Eugenio! Show your face. Will I have the right, as a challenger, to be able to tell the citizens what I think?"
Tomasi continued: "Will we have the right to have the time to explain to people what we think of the electoral programs, not in August, not in the last 15 days? Will we have the right to be able to collect signatures to present a list in addition to ours ? And if there is an opponent besides the two of us who does not have a reference in the Regional Council, will he have the right to present a list? This is the essence of democracy!".
In conclusion, the mayor of Pistoia turned again to the governor: "You decide when to vote, whenever you want," he said. "Is the 12th okay with you?", Giani replied. "Whenever you want is fine with me," Tomasi replied. "Then it's the 12th," the governor replied. "Just know, I'll collect signatures for the lists during August, at least we know when to vote ," concluded the FdI representative.
